Battery rebate rates and dates
The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program gives around 30% off batteries connected to solar, through certificates set by the installation date. The WA Residential Battery Scheme adds a rebate by retailer. For the full conditions, the no-interest loans and published battery prices, see the solar battery cost guide.
Federal discount by installation date
Federal discount on a 10 kWh battery by installation date
| Installed | Certificates per kWh | 10 kWh at $40 a certificate, at most |
|---|---|---|
| By 31 December 2026 | 6.8 | $2,720 |
| 1 January to 30 June 2027 | 5.7 | $2,280 |
| 1 July to 31 December 2027 | 5.2 | $2,080 |
STC factors from DCCEEW, checked 5 October 2026. The dollar column is our arithmetic: 10 kWh × factor × $40 (the Clearing House price, excluding GST). 31 December 2026 is the last day for the 6.8 factor; after 2027 it keeps falling every six months, to 2.1 in the second half of 2030.

Common questions
How is the federal battery discount worked out?
Your battery's usable capacity, in kWh, is multiplied by the STC factor for the date it's installed. The first 14 kWh count in full, each kWh from 14 to 28 counts at 60%, and each kWh from 28 to 50 at 15%. The result is rounded down to whole certificates, each worth up to $40 at the government's Clearing House price, excluding GST. Installers usually take the discount off the price.
Why does the calculator ask for the price basis?
Battery prices are quoted in different ways. Some are before any rebate, some already take off the federal discount, and some take off both. The calculator only takes off the rebates your price doesn't already include.
