Solar battery prices in WA

No Busselton or South West installer we checked publishes battery prices, so these are a Perth installer's published prices and a national price index. Treat them as a guide to what's normal, not a quote.

Perth installer prices, after both rebates

Supply-and-install prices after the WA and federal rebates, as published by a Perth installer (updated June 2026, checked 27 September 2026). They assume a single-storey home with a tin roof, room on the switchboard and a 2026 installation. The page doesn't say whether GST is included. Busselton jobs can differ with travel and site conditions.

National average prices, federal discount included

National averages from Solar Choice's installer network, August 2026 (checked 27 September 2026). They include installation, GST and the federal discount, but not the WA rebate. Battery-only prices assume the home already has a hybrid or battery-ready inverter, and the index says they don't usually include meter fees or difficult installations.

Check the date on any battery price you compare. The federal discount dropped on 1 May 2026 and drops again on 1 January 2027, and several WA price pages still show federal amounts from before May.

How the WA and federal rebates work together

There are two separate schemes, and a Busselton home can use both. WA's scheme was changed in June 2025 to complement the federal program, and the Australian Government says people can be eligible under more than one scheme.

The WA Residential Battery Scheme

Synergy customers get $130 for each kWh of usable capacity, up to $1,300. Busselton is on Western Power's network, where households buy their electricity from Synergy, so that's the rate that applies here. Horizon Power's higher rate, up to $3,800, is only for Horizon Power customers.

• At least 5 kWh of usable capacity, with the rebate worked out on up to 10 kWh
• A battery on Synergy's supported list and the Clean Energy Council's approved list
• Installed by a licensed electrician with Solar Accreditation Australia battery accreditation
• Sold by a vendor that complies with the New Energy Tech Consumer Code, or agrees to within three months
• Installed on or after 1 July 2025, one per property, with the vendor applying for you

The virtual power plant requirement

To get the WA rebate, you must join a virtual power plant (VPP) for two years, after which you can opt out. Synergy customers can choose Synergy's Battery Rewards or an approved alternative. Synergy pays 70 cents for each unit exported during an activation event, with up to 30 events a year, typically between 3pm and 9pm and lasting up to 6 hours. Battery Rewards needs reliable internet and an eligible tariff, and isn't available to homes with life-support equipment.

No-interest loans

Households with a gross income under $210,000 can borrow $2,001 to $10,000 interest-free over 3 to 10 years, with no early repayment fees. The loans are run by Plenti and can cover the battery plus new or upgraded inverters and solar panels installed with it. A credit assessment applies, and a late fee of $10 a week is charged on arrears, capped at $120 a year.

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount

The federal program takes around 30% off the upfront cost of batteries from 5 to 100 kWh. It works through small-scale technology certificates, which the installer usually claims and takes off your price, so you don't apply. The battery has to be connected to solar panels, be on the Clean Energy Council's approved list, and be able to join a VPP, though you don't have to join one.

The number of certificates depends on the battery's usable capacity and the date it's installed. Since 1 May 2026, each kWh above 14 kWh earns 60% of the rate, and each kWh above 28 kWh, up to 50 kWh, earns 15%.

Federal discount on a 10 kWh battery, by installation date

Certificates per kWh from DCCEEW, checked 27 September 2026. The dollar column is our arithmetic at the $40 Clearing House price (excluding GST): 10 kWh × certificates × $40. What you actually get depends on the certificate price your installer obtains and any fees, so it can be less. The factor keeps falling after 2027, to 2.1 by the second half of 2030.

What the two add up to

By our arithmetic, a Synergy customer's 10 kWh battery installed before 1 January 2027 could attract up to about $4,020 in total: $1,300 from WA and up to $2,720 from the federal discount. WA's June 2025 announcement said up to $5,000, but that used 2025's higher federal rate. Ask each installer to show both rebates as separate lines on the quote.

New connection rules since 1 May 2026

On Western Power's network, which takes in Busselton, every new or upgraded solar and battery system must be able to be remotely disconnected and reconnected by your electricity retailer, or be limited to exporting 1.5 kW. Inverters must meet AS/NZS 4777.2:2020 and be set to Australia Region B. This applies whether or not you claim a rebate.

Questions to ask before you sign

• Is the price before or after both rebates, and does it include GST?
• What certificate price and fees has the installer allowed for in the federal discount?
• Is the battery on the approved lists for both schemes?
• Is the installer accredited by Solar Accreditation Australia for battery systems, and is the vendor signed up to the New Energy Tech Consumer Code?
• Does the switchboard have room, or will it need an upgrade?
• Which VPP will you join, and what are its terms?
• When will it be installed, compared with the 1 January 2027 step-down?

The ACCC requires a displayed consumer price to be the minimum total cost, including taxes and unavoidable fees, so ask for one all-in figure. If the board needs work first, see the switchboard upgrade cost guide.
