The short answer

Web X Electricians in Perth publishes $250 to $350 to replace an electric or induction cooktop like for like, $600 to $900 to upgrade to induction with a new 32 A circuit, and $600 to $900 plus the gas fitter to change from gas, all including GST, with the cooktop extra. The circuit your cooktop needs depends on the model, so check its installation guide. In WA, a licensed electrical contractor does the electrical connection and a licensed gas fitter disconnects the gas. We found no WA Government rebate for induction cooktops.

It was the only WA electrician we found publishing induction installation prices, and no WA gas fitter publishes a price for capping a cooktop's gas line. Busselton jobs can differ.

Retailer installation service

Electric oven and cooktop install and deliveryFrom $379 (WA)The Good Guys

The retailer's published WA "from" prices, checked 23 October 2026, which it says are indicative and vary by location. They cover connecting a new appliance to the existing power supply only: not new circuits or changes to the supply, gas disconnection, or removing the old appliance. The page doesn't say whether GST is included.

The retailer's price is for connecting to a supply that's already there. A cooktop that needs a new circuit, or replaces a gas one, costs more, because the electrician runs new cable from the switchboard.

Does an induction cooktop need a new circuit?

It depends on the model and what's there now. Manufacturers set different requirements across their ranges:

Circuit requirements in manufacturers' guides

CooktopWhat the manufacturer lists
Fisher & Paykel 30 cm (CI302ZDTB5)16 A dedicated circuit
Fisher & Paykel 60 cm and 80 cm (CI604ZZDT, CI804ZZDT)20 A dedicated circuit
Fisher & Paykel 90 cm (CI905ZZDT)32 A dedicated circuit
Fisher & Paykel 60 cm Series 5 (CI604CTPB2)20 A rated current, 4.5 kW
Westinghouse 30 cm (WHI323BD)16 A breaker
Westinghouse's other models in the same manual32 A breaker

From Fisher & Paykel's induction installation guide (February 2026) and Series 5 product sheet, and Westinghouse's induction user manual, checked 23 October 2026. Some models also offer two-phase or three-phase connection. The figures don't tell you whether your existing circuit is enough: the electrician confirms that from the model's full instructions and your switchboard.

Fisher & Paykel describes its 20 A Series 5 cooktop as a low-current option for replacing gas or ceramic models that can use existing wiring, while adding that installation requirements vary and to consult a qualified electrician. The electrician also checks that the switchboard has room and capacity for the circuit; on an older board that can mean a switchboard upgrade. For bigger cooktops on three-phase, see single-phase vs three-phase power.

Switching from gas to induction

A gas-to-induction change usually involves two licensed trades:

  1. A licensed gas fitter disconnects the gas cooktop. Building and Energy says to use a licensed gas fitter where renovations involve disconnecting or relocating gas appliances. Gas fitters' licence numbers start with GF.
  2. A licensed electrical contractor connects the induction cooktop, including any new circuit from the switchboard.
  3. Get both trades' paperwork. The gas fitter must give you a Notice of Completion within 48 hours of finishing, and the electrical contractor gives you an Electrical Safety Certificate for installing work.

If the gas notice doesn't arrive, Building and Energy says to ask the gas fitter first, then notify your gas supplier or Building and Energy. Busselton is one of the towns on ATCO Gas Australia's South-West gas distribution system, according to the Economic Regulation Authority; homes on bottled LPG deal with their LPG supplier.

Is there a rebate for induction cooktops in WA?

We found no WA Government rebate for induction cooktops. Energy Ahead, run by Energy Policy WA with Synergy and Horizon Power, helps households in energy-related financial hardship and replaces low-efficiency appliances such as refrigerators, but isn't a general induction rebate.

The federal Household Energy Upgrades Fund offers discounted finance rather than a rebate: the Clean Energy Finance Corporation works with lenders on products such as green home loans, and says this has helped households install appliances including induction cooktops. It doesn't lend to individuals directly, so ask your bank or lender.

Who can install an induction cooktop

A hard-wired cooktop is connected to the fixed wiring, which in WA is electrical work for a licensed electrical contractor. Westinghouse's manual also says all electrical connections must be made by a qualified electrician.

A new circuit is installing work, so you should receive an Electrical Safety Certificate within 28 days. A straight swap on the existing circuit may count as maintenance work, which doesn't need one, depending on the two models, so ask the contractor. See the Electrical Safety Certificate in WA.

Common questions

How much does it cost to install an induction cooktop in WA?

Web X Electricians in Perth publishes $250 to $350 for a like-for-like swap and $600 to $900 to upgrade to induction with a new 32 A circuit, incl. GST, with the cooktop extra (updated 16 September 2026, checked 23 October 2026).

Do I need a new circuit for an induction cooktop?

It depends on the model. Fisher & Paykel's guide lists 16 A, 20 A and 32 A dedicated circuits across its range, and it says its 20 A Series 5 model can often use existing wiring, but to check with an electrician. Check your model's installation guide and have the electrician check your switchboard.

Do I need a gas fitter to switch from gas to induction?

Yes, to disconnect the gas. Building and Energy says to use a licensed gas fitter where renovations involve disconnecting gas appliances, and the fitter must give you a Notice of Completion within 48 hours.

Is there a rebate for induction cooktops in WA?

We found no WA Government rebate. The federal Household Energy Upgrades Fund offers discounted finance through lenders, not a rebate.

Can I install an induction cooktop myself?

Not a hard-wired one. Connecting it to the fixed wiring is electrical work that needs a licence in WA.

Will I get a certificate for the work?

For a new circuit, yes: the electrical contractor must give you an Electrical Safety Certificate within 28 days. For a straight swap, ask, as like-for-like replacements can be exempt.
